The real reason Adidas, Gap, and Balenciaga dropped Kanye West in 2022

Companies are cutting ties with Kanye West

Following Kanye West's controversial and antisemitic comments, various companies, such as Adidas, Gap, CAA, and Balenciaga, have decided to end their business relationships with the rapper.

Let's talk about the real reasons the influential A-list musician and fashion designer has been dropped by brands.

It's no longer news that Ye is constantly making headlines. Everything Ye does is always controversial. His designs, music, and, of course, his personal life.

Recently, big brands like Adidas, Gap, and Balenciaga have ended their contracts with him following his antisemitic remarks. According to "The Washington Post," The 4-year-old Grammy winner has publicly used banality to degrade and reduce Jewish people, some of which have earned him suspensions from
Twitter and Instagram.

On October 8, 2022, he posted anti-Semitic comments on Twitter (now X) and Instagram that violated the policies of the platforms. In one of his posts, which was later removed, Ye said he would soon go “death con 3 on Jewish people.”

“You guys have toyed with me and tried to blackball anyone who opposes your agenda,” he said in the same tweet.

Before putting out the comment, Ye took to Instagram, accusing record producer Sean “Diddy” Combs of being influenced by “the Jewish people.”

The Anti-Defamation League slammed Ye’s post, calling it “deeply troubling, dangerous, and antisemitic, period.”

“There is no excuse for his propagating of white supremacist slogans and classic antisemitism about Jewish power, especially with the platform he has,” the League said in a statement.

As a result, Ye was locked out of Twitter while Meta restricted his Instagram account.

The controversy surrounding Ye's posts prompted his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, to issue a statement condemning his remarks.

“Hate speech is never OK or excusable. I stand together with the Jewish community and call on the terrible violence and hateful rhetoric towards them to come to an immediate end,” Kardashian posted on both Twitter and Instagram without naming Ye

Adidas has been reviewing its partnership with Ye since he tweeted a threat to “go death con on Jewish people.” Adidas is the brand that Ye has one of his notable partnerships with, which created his lucrative Yeezy line, which produced sneakers and slides along with jackets and shirts that brought Adidas billions of dollars annually.

Gap is the latest brand to cut ties with Ye. Gap Inc. is immediately pulling its Kanye West-designed Yeezy clothing line products from its shelves and has shut down its YeezyGap.com website in response to the rapper's antisemitic remarks. Gap terminated a royalty agreement to sell apparel through 2030. It was revealed that Ye was the one to end his contract with the brand as they failed to meet up
with the end of their contract agreement, including selling 40 percent of the Yeezy GAP lines in brick-and-mortar stores.

West accused Gap of copying one of his Yeezy brand T-shirt designs and selling the item separately for just $19.
He alleged that the breaking point in the collaboration was a question of creativity versus big money and cited the example of Yeezy sunglasses that West wanted to sell in the affordable $20 range.

He claimed GAP wanted to overprice the sunglasses. There is no other choice than to terminate their contract with Ye. In October 2022, Balenciaga officially cut ties with Kanye West following a series of antisemitic posts and other controversial comments from the rapper, according to a news report.

Ye had collaborated in several areas with Balenciaga and its artistic director, Demna Gvasalia.
